Laura Langman (born 16 April 1986 in Hamilton, New Zealand) is a New Zealand international netball player. Primarily a midcourt player, Langman is the vice-captain of the New Zealand national netball team – the Silver Ferns, and also captains the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the ANZ Championship.

Early career:

While still a student at Hillcrest High School in Hamilton, Langman was selected for the New Zealand U21 team. In 2003 she made her elite netball debut with the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the National Bank Cup, and later that year was selected for the Silver Ferns

Silver Ferns debut:

Langman made her international test debut in 2005 against England.That year she captained the New Zealand U21 side to win gold at the World Youth Netball Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.In the National Bank Cup, Langman won two premierships with the Magic in 2005 and 2006. She was also selected for the Silver Ferns team that won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

The following year she made the Silver Ferns team to contest the 2007 Netball World Championships in Auckland, but almost had to withdraw with a foot injury.Langman recovered in time for the Championships, in which the Silver Ferns came in second behind Australia.

ANZ Championship era:

With the start of the ANZ Championship, Langman remained with the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, who finished runners-up in 2008. She was named vice-captain of the Silver Ferns that year, and was elevated to acting co-captain following an injury to Julie Seymour.Although normally a wing defender, Langman became increasingly shifted into different areas of the midcourt to cover gaps left by injured players or personnel changes.In 2009 she earned her 50th test cap against England at the age of 23,and won a gold medal with the Silver Ferns at the 2009 World Netball Series in Manchester. The following year she won another gold medal with the Silver Ferns at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She was also named captain of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic for the 2010 ANZ Championship season,and continued in the role in 2011.The Magic took out the ANZ championship in 2012 beating the Melbourne Vixens. Laura played a very important part in the Magic as captain and playing the centre position with flair.

She captained the Ferns several times in 2012, due to Casey Williams being injured, she also captained the 2012 New Zealand Fast5 team, where she led them to a gold medal against England. Remarkably, she has never missed a game for the silver ferns since her debut, which is surely a record in international netball.

World Netball Championships:

2007 World Netball Championships:

The 2007 World Netball Championships was the 12th staging of the World Netball Championships, a quadrennial international netball world championship co-ordinated by the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA), inaugurated in 1963.

Sixteen nations competed from 10 to the 17 November. The event was hosted in the West part of Auckland, New Zealand. The competition comprised 48 matches over 8 days with all matches being played in the The Trusts Stadium, Waitakere. The event was broadcast in over half a dozen countries

Australia defeated the home side, New Zealand 42–38 for their 9th world championship.

Commonwealth Games:

2006 Commonwealth Games-Gold:

The 2006 Commonwealth Games, officially the XVIII Commonwealth Games, were held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia between 15 and 26 March 2006. It was the largest sporting event to be staged in Melbourne, eclipsing the 1956 Summer Olympics in terms of the number of teams competing, athletes competing, and events being held.

The site for the opening and closing ceremonies was the Melbourne Cricket Ground which was also used during Melbourne's 1956 Olympic Games. The mascot for the games was Karak, a Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (a threatened species)

2010 Commonwealth Games-Gold:

The 2010 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XIX Commonwealth Games, were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. A total of 6,081 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports and 272 events, making it the largest Commonwealth Games to date. It was also the largest international multi-sport event to be staged in Delhi and India, eclipsing the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening and closing ceremonies were held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium of the event. It was the first time that the Commonwealth Games were held in India and the second time it was held in Asia after Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998. This also marked the first time a Commonwealth Republic hosted the games. The official mascot of the Games was Shera and the official song of the Games, "Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto", was composed by celebrated Indian musician A.R. Rahman.

World Netball Series:

The 2009 World Netball Series was the inaugural tournament of the World Netball Series. The 2009 Series was held at MEN Arena in Manchester, England from 9–11 October, and was the first major trial of the new FastNet rules that were announced by the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) in 2008. New Zealand won the 2009 tournament with a 32–27 victory over Jamaica in the gold medal playoff.
